Holidays for pixies

For a long time our answer to those seeking legal cannabis smoking has been "Fancy a holiday in Amsterdam next year?" However, change may be afoot...

If the Netherlands really is adopting a 'residents only' attitude to smoking marijuana (none of us have done the experiment yet so don't know if its true), pot-loving tourists will have to go elsewhere. Once or twice a year is good enough for most of us, but if you want to permanently move somewhere you can legally smoke all the time, currently Spain wins hands down and it's also a beautiful place to visit  :  ) Your right to grow your own and smoke in private places is actually defended by their constitution! Might be a nice place to retire?

Here are a selection of destinations:

Australia (Decriminalized in Western Australia & South Australia. Tasmania, Victoria, & Queensland policies involve ticketing for below 50 grams.)
Belgium (illegal but tolerated for personal consumption, up to 3g or one plant)
Brazil (illegal but decriminalized for personal consumption)
Canada (illegal except for medicinal purposes, but cannabis control laws are spottily enforced, with the west coast being well known for its high quality cannabis and low levels of enforcement.)
Costa Rica (illegal but decriminalized for personal consumption and largely ignored by authorities)
Czech republic (legal for small amounts, up to 15g or 5 plants)
Ecuador (possession is not illegal)
India (legal in some areas and illegal but openly ignored by authorities in others.)
Mexico (illegal but decriminalized for personal consumption, up to 15g)
Nepal (nominally illegal but no enforcement and authorities ignore it)
Peru (legal up to 8g, but not if in possession of other drugs)
Spain (legal if private, eg grown on your own land for personal use, or consumed by adults in a private space)
Switzerland (illegal but decriminalized for personal consumption)
UK (illegal but decriminalized in practice up to 3g for personal consumption)
USA (illegal but decriminalized for personal consumption in 14 states)
Uruguay (legal for small personal amounts)
