Reversing the effects of alcoholism

Hi there,
I live in an area with the highest per capita rate of alcohol consumption than any other area on my continent.  Many of me friends are affected by this.  How do we fix it?  Along those lines, I recall there being some sort of nootropic available at one point that help to minimize the cognitive impairment associated with long-term alcohol consumption.  What was that and how can it be obtained?

Re: Reversing the effects of alcoholism

Hi dude,
Bearing in mind the big difference between a pisshead and an alcoholic:

Donepezil
https://www.eurekalert.org/pub_releases … 021518.php

And for other organs:

Donepezil won't recapture lost memories, however! Depending on what happened when drunk, this may or may not be a good thing  :  )
Good to hear from ye!

Re: Reversing the effects of alcoholism

Can you expand upon the difference from your perspective?  Thanks for the link, btw.  Those should do nicely.  There was another, as I recall, that had to do with oxygenation.  It was banned as an OTC some 10 years ago.  That ring a bell?  Also,I did my fair share of heavy drinking in college some 15 years ago, though I don't really drink now.  Might it be of some benefit for me to take Donepezil for NH purposes?  Also, how might you suggest we each broach the subject to an MD in order to get a prescription?

Re: Reversing the effects of alcoholism

Hi, sorry for delay!
The difference between a pisshead and an alcoholic: Both get pissed a lot, but if required, a pisshead can stop drinking with no craving for more and no physical or psychological withdrawal symptoms. An alcoholic can't.

It works the same for addiction of any kind. If you want to know whether you're addicted to something, give it up for a while. If you get withdrawal symptoms, you're addicted. If folks tried this with sugar, tea/coffee/cola and cellphones, many would get a disturbing surprise.

Oxygenation has lost some popularity due to awareness of free radical damage, Vitamin C is gaining popularity in detox regimes, I would look at all vitamins for brain health because as a general rule, if you're getting enough vits from your food, you're on a good diet.

Damage done 15 years ago has had plenty of time to recover and heal. Taking stuff now will only affect your current state.
Re: Donepezil as a nootropic: All synthetic medications have complex effects. Donepezil is an acetylcholinesterase inhibitor, so research it first, look at side effects and interactions with other drugs, consider your personal chemistry and then decide whether there are more risks than benefits. If you want a natural Acetylcholinesterase inhibitor, try Huperzine A (chinese moss). You don't need a prescription for Huperzine A.
