Re: Newcomers Questions - Site Related

Everything turns up in the bay sooner or later...it is a home away from home for travellers, entrepreneurs, and sometimes spammers?  :  )

Btw Sakiro, have you tried posting on residents' forum yet?

Re: Newcomers Questions - Site Related

Hi, I'm a "newbie" here...I browsed through your tutorials and found them interesting...I also noted the emphasis on doing things "in the right order" but...woe is me...I can access all your tutorials except Number One! I hope this is just a technical glitch and not a sign that my neurons are disintegrating...surprised

Any help and reassurance appreciated!
Elena

Re: Newcomers Questions - Site Related

Hi there,
Yes you're right there is a whoopsy somewhere! All the tutorials are there except T1 which appears to have gone down the bar for a few beers. We are working on it.

You could try clicking on this link:
http://www.neurohackers.com/index.php/e … htutorial1

to see if you can go there directly (let us know if you can't).
Alternatively if you register you may be able to see the material.

Apologies for inconvenience,
NHA

I thought it was just me. I look forward to seeing Tutorial 1 when it's back up.

Great stuff! I read three books on neuroplasticity in the past two months and was hoping I could find something info on practical application. I spent a ton of time on the site tonight and am excited to dig in.

Hi,
Webmasters may be off partying (I know I am) so I hope the link or registering works  :  )
Recommend "Synaptic Self" by Joseph LeDoux if you haven't already read this.
There is also some more info on plasticity in 'basics' and 'methods' sections of library.
Have fun,

Thanks Alex. The link doesn't work for registered folks either. No worries - I'll check back from time to time.

Synaptic Self was my first "brain" book. I loved it. I also read "The Brain that Changes Itself" by Norman Doidge and "Train Your Mind, Change Your Brain" by Sharon Begley.

Have you read them? If so, I'd be curious to hear your thoughts.

Re: Newcomers Questions - Site Related

Tutorial 1 is now available - thank you.

One other challenge - the link for "The Bay" on the "For Newbies" page no longer works.

Re: Newcomers Questions - Site Related

Hi there,
Thanks for alerting us to the disappearing links problems! All should now be well.

I ignored Begley for a while as from the title I mistook it for a marketing attempt to promote 'brain training' products  :  )

She does a pretty tidy job of clarifying how conscious thought can alter cytoarchitectonics; I like the way mind and brain are clearly separated (although I've seen how this freaks out some reviewers, who just don't get it) and I wish she would go deeper and discuss how unconscious thought can do so because that's the real architect. Going deeper increases likelihood of misunderstanding however, and I think a lot of people will already misunderstand Begley and begin enthusiastically training up their frontal lobes, which is not necessarily a good thing...

But authors can never guarantee what readers will make of their writings  :  )

I haven't yet read Doidge but I'm getting the impression from website that he takes a similar approach?
Currently awaiting Ramachandran's latest, which is bound to be stuffed full of goodies (although I know he has some old fashioned terminology).

Welcome to the group, btw  :  )
Best,
AR

I really liked the Doidge book. His primary focus is explaining how researchers have leveraged neuroplasticity to reverse devastating cognitive dysfunction.

Both are great intros for someone who is new to brain science and plasticity, i.e., well written, light on terminology, and easy to read.

Just wondering how we can upload pictures to the gallery section.  Got a few images of the float tank I'd like to contribute:)

Re: Newcomers Questions - Site Related

Hi dude,

well, for now, the easiest way is to make a zip with the pictures (if you can, resize them so that they are not bigger than about 800x600 pixels [they will be resized anyway if they are bigger than that]), and then you attach the file to a post here and I'll deal with the rest of the process.

I think the library's gallery is intended to store some specific material (btw, I realized there still was the fractality gallery in there and that I had to remove it; it's been done). Now, the workshop is the place for it, though I may have to add a gallery sub-section to it...

So, beam'em up dude, I'll catch'em!
