Do you use adaptogens?

Btw, tried to create a poll but was unsuccessful. Submit or Preview buttons didn't work.

Here you can say what type do you use and why... personally I wondered about the effects of Rhodiola Rosea because it's a MAO inhibitor so how much the benefits are from that.

[do you use adaptogens]

Yes, this does sound promising, although I haven't tried it yet:

Have you got a source for the MAOI info? Some are very specific so it would be good to know what sort it is.
I tried ginseng for several months, but noticed no change, I'm currently looking for holy basil (Tulsi) if anyone knows where one can buy a plant online, let me know!

Poll function: await the attention of sensei Scalino  :  )

AIM OF THE STUDY: Rhodiola rosea L. (Crassulaceae) is traditionally used in Eastern Europe and Asia to stimulate the nervous system, enhance physical and mental performance, treat fatigue, psychological stress and depression. In order to investigate the influence of Rhodiola rosea L. roots on mood disorders, three extracts were tested against monoamine oxidases (MAOs A and B) in a microtitre plate bioassay. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Methanol and water extracts gave the highest inhibitory activity against MAOs. Twelve compounds were then isolated by bioassay-guided fractionation using chromatographic methods. The structures were determined by 1H, 13C NMR and HR-MS. RESULTS: The methanol and water extracts exhibited respectively inhibitions of 92.5% and 84.3% on MAO A and 81.8% and 88.9% on MAO B, at a concentration of 100 microg/ml. The most active compound (rosiridin) presented an inhibition over 80% on MAO B at a concentration of 10(-5) M (pIC50=5.38+/-0.05). CONCLUSIONS: The present investigation demonstrates that Rhodiola rosea L. roots have potent anti-depressant activity by inhibiting MAO A and may also find application in the control of senile dementia by their inhibition of MAO B.

Re: Do you use adaptogens?

Hi dude,
I was following this up wondering if I'd be able to cultivate the plant in this location and some dude on a forum said, "The plant always grows over 2,200 meters high"  :  )  I realize they meant elevation but it was fun to imagine playing Jack & the Beanstalk with that one...

Btw, good site:

That's funny.

An interesting link too.

Re: Do you use adaptogens?

If it's an MAO A inhibitor, doesn't that make it rather dangerous as you have to follow a special diet in case you get killed by cheese?

Being killed by overdosing on cheese is not an impressive way to die. It makes you sound silly.

...or a morbidly obese mouse  :  )

But yes, cheese (or anything with tyramine) is a problem unless someone can develop a reversible form
