Synaptic Self was my first "brain" book. I loved it. I also read "The Brain that Changes Itself" by Norman Doidge and "Train Your Mind, Change Your Brain" by Sharon Begley.

Have you read them? If so, I'd be curious to hear your thoughts.

Thanks for alerting us to the disappearing links problems! All should now be well.

I ignored Begley for a while as from the title I mistook it for a marketing attempt to promote 'brain training' products  :  )

She does a pretty tidy job of clarifying how conscious thought can alter cytoarchitectonics; I like the way mind and brain are clearly separated (although I've seen how this freaks out some reviewers, who just don't get it) and I wish she would go deeper and discuss how unconscious thought can do so because that's the real architect. Going deeper increases likelihood of misunderstanding however, and I think a lot of people will already misunderstand Begley and begin enthusiastically training up their frontal lobes, which is not necessarily a good thing...

But authors can never guarantee what readers will make of their writings  :  )

I haven't yet read Doidge but I'm getting the impression from website that he takes a similar approach?
Currently awaiting Ramachandran's latest, which is bound to be stuffed full of goodies (although I know he has some old fashioned terminology).

well, for now, the easiest way is to make a zip with the pictures (if you can, resize them so that they are not bigger than about 800x600 pixels [they will be resized anyway if they are bigger than that]), and then you attach the file to a post here and I'll deal with the rest of the process.

I think the library's gallery is intended to store some specific material (btw, I realized there still was the fractality gallery in there and that I had to remove it; it's been done). Now, the workshop is the place for it, though I may have to add a gallery sub-section to it...

So, beam'em up dude, I'll catch'em!
