Re: In a Nutshell...
not at all disappointed, as I even agree with you here =) Although, not only with metallica or even music itself (any 'message'), many times I find taking it as "social critique" may turn it around (dispell the spell?lol)? Perhaps this is just rationallization though and the effect on the unconscious is not blunted in the least =( your thoughts? I do have ideas of changing many lyrics btw (from many artists I should say), to a healthier posture, tho most turn out to be humorous, ala Weird Al[1], or "misheard" videos (which i find extremely funny). Some of the instrumental compositions at least are quite genius, in my opinion, which could be put to better use I must admit I almost don't listen to Metallica anymore, for many years now, and this site's influence may very well has something to do with it ^_^ tho maybe my weakness for electronic music from even before I've discovered "bands" also helps, since it was quite relatively late too (but metallica was the 1st 'official one' I truly liked so.. it is easier to find parallels) and by then melodies were already my favorite aspect of music. (as in, 'well above lyrics' or any fixed set of instruments or style) So it may be easier for me to "get out of" dodgy input on this front.. i dont know.. A2A PS.: I don't quite get what you mean by: "in the very first degree". if one think of something 'in the 1st degree', isn't expressing that thought sincere? =) |

Re: In a Nutshell...
Yep Want some? Though I focused most on fiction for the time being, got LOTS of those.. specially in English, I may not have any actually finished one, even though I prefer that language for lyrics (more succinct/practical/modular, easier for keeping the tempo). I prefer portuguese for poetry (more verbose/carven/baroque, less cheap rhymes and metrics (for one thing)). Your Spanish is good, right? Dunno if it helps though?
That's what I don't get, you say "in other words", but the first words said the opposite? no? What I would say, is that they may very well believe all that, even act on it, regardless of being healthy or not. In that sense, maybe they are sincere, as in not bs'ing listeners on purpose, even though just as bad... |

Re: In a Nutshell...
sorry, this may have come out as slightly defiant? as you know (and is probably already too obvious ) English is not my native language so this kind of stuff may persist after the 1st or 2nd pass (or 3rd ). I sincerely asked as I thought there was a sincere interest. Also, the Spanish thing, I ask only because, it being a romance language, it may lose less on translation? But if rhyme or any possible metrics which may be there (i dont care much for metrics ^_^) is not as important then I guess I could translate to English? When I do that I do try to be careful when picking the terms, but, even though the overall atmosphere and texture is usually preserved, rhymes get way too inconsistent to care too much to. Anyway, you've inspired me to go on a quest to fetch an oldy, moldy, grimoire of mine, sealed under an old library. After the dust settled, I was able to find 2 or 3, perhaps 4, close* to finished lyrics, among the many scattered fragments of inspiration. The tome was from an epoch I still meddled with the dark arts and, as such, it may have a sole piece, perhaps 2 of, what we'd call, "healthy" or, at least, "healthy avoiding unhealthy conditions". (though I wonder if that isn't the very definition of "adventure" we may seek?[1]) There were quite a bit more poetry indeed, and to tell you the truth, the lack of experience in lyrics (i didnt even used to consider odd/even metrics, verse stability, etc etc) at the time probably made them devolve more to poetry than actual lyrics. But yes, most in Portuguese. (perhaps a couple already in English) A2A *at a stage where it would need actual singers so i can see (hear?) where the rough edges are [1][...]fighting to survive in a world with the darkest powers[...] ;-) |
